Audio/Visual
Needs and Room Setup
Below are my usual and
preferred policies, procedures, and requests. All
are designed for maximum audience comfort and
speaker effectiveness. If something is
unacceptable or impossible, let me know and we'll
discuss and adjust.
- Microphone:
Because I'm six two, and because I walk
around, I need a microphone that DETACHES
from the lectern. First choice: Wireless
lavaliere. Second: Lavaliere with cord.
Third: Cordless handheld. Fourth:
Handheld with cord.
- VCR: I need
VCR equipment (VHS player and either one
TV, more TV's, or screen, depending on
the size of the room. Or LCD projector,
VHS player, mixer for sound, and screen.)
- Room setup:
I want my audience to be comfortable,
connected with each other, and facing me.
This is impossible when the chairs are
arranged in straight rows (as they
usually are) because the people on the
outer edges then have to turn their heads
for the entire time I'm speaking -- which
leads to discomfort, stress, and
eventually resentment! Instead, rows of
chairs should curve, facing the podium,
so that everyone can see me without
turning their head. To picture this,
imagine the speaker as a pebble dropped
in a lake; the chairs should be lined up
like ripples around the pebble - but of
course only in a half-circle, not a full
circle. Hotel staff should be instructed
that each individual chair should face
the lectern. Contrary to popular belief,
this curved-row format actually allows
MORE chairs to fit in a room.
- Lectern: A
lectern should be provided, along with
water.
THANK YOU!
