PROGRAMS
FOR SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS
As a former
Stanford and professional basketball player, the
author of five books, and a national expert on
sports, success, and leadership, I use my 26
"athletic essentials" (from my new
book, We Are All Athletes), audience participation, video,
and lots of humor to give athletes and other
sports professionals the motivation and tools
they need to lead and succeed with confidence,
commitment, courage, and compassion.
A lifelong athlete and
advocate for girls and women in sports, I believe
that sports participation fundamentally changes
how girls and women walk, talk, take risks, team
with others, and interact with the world. Sports
empower women, teaching them to be courageous,
confident, and committed to excellence. In a
society that still gives girls the message that
they should be dainty, delicate, decorative, and
deferential, sports offer an alternative, and an
antidote to the poor self-esteem and physical
shame that plague many nonathletic girls.
I believe that all of
us, regardless of gender, and regardless of
athletic background, can benefit from seeing
ourselves as athletes, developing our physical
intelligence, and learning to walk through the
world with an athlete's courage, confidence, and
commitment to excellence. I challenge
people to "play their own game," and to
bring the principals of teamwork, goal-setting,
fairness, fun, and celebration into the
workplace.
